Peel and core the apple and chop it into ½” cubes.
1 large apple
Add the chopped apple, water, sugar, cinnamon, and salt to a medium skillet or saucepan.
3 tablespoons water, 3 tablespoons sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 pinch salt
Place the skillet over medium heat and cook the apples, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has caramelized and the apples are soft but not mushy, about 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat, serve over pancakes, ice cream, or oatmeal, and enjoy!
